Scottish Housing Exposition: Innovative Materials
Stage 2 Architectural Technology
Lecturers
Jonathan Scott
Tahar Kouider

This project focuses on modern (new) housing in the form of a Housing Exposition similar to those taking place across Europe. The project involved four ‘zones’ in which the students were split into four large groups. The different groups investigated and analysed four topical areas in housing construction, namely; Innovative Materials; Passive Solar Design; Zero Carbon Housing, and; Prefabrication.

In this group the students investigated and developed housing with innovative materials and/or common materials used in innovative ways. In this instance, some developed a modern take on adobe building and others looked to do modern twists on Aberdeen housing using granite cladding in innovative ways. Almost all these houses also adopted principles from other groups, such as passive solar and/or prefabrication.
