ABERDEEN ARCHITECTURE INSTITUTE
Year 3 Architecture
In second semester students designed a new, purpose-built public building for academia on a greenfield site, in relation to the historic Old Aberdeen campus. The brief imagined the merger of The Robert Gordon University and Aberdeen University into a single dedicated architecture faculty, The Aberdeen Architecture Institute (AAI). It was envisaged that this type of project would commonly be awarded by an international competition, therefore the student’s work conformed to a strict format of a competition entry with clearly laid out drawings and an accompanying report. The brief for the new Aberdeen Architecture Institute set ambitious aims for its faculty as well as its academic mission; to provide the best and most ecologically sound facilities
for architecture students in the UK.
